WCHS has an important announcement!
Beginning June 2nd, our shelter will be open to walk-ins without the need for appointments for those who are interested in adopting one of our animals. To expedite the adoption process, please complete an adoption application online. It is important to note that in order to maintain proper safe distances, we will only be able to accommodate ten visitors in our shelter at one time. For your protection and ours, we ask that customers wear a mask. If you don't have a mask, we can provide one. Also, for the safety of your child, children 12 and under are not permitted at the shelter at this time.
Once you arrive at the shelter, please check in at our front desk so that we can quickly fill you in on what areas of our shelter are open. We'll have walking lanes on the floors marked with tape, and will require to sanitize your hands as you move from room to room and after handling an animal. If you'd still prefer too schedule an appointment, give us a call!
Our intake policy remains the same - please phone us if you have a sick or injured cat, and we will arrange a drop off time & meet you in our parking lot.
Lastly, a word to our volunteers - if you have volunteered in the past, we'd love your help! At this time, please phone the shelter to schedule a time for you to volunteer. We will brief you with the proper safety precautions, and will ask that you wear a mask at all times while on shelter property. Unfortunately, we are not able to take new volunteers at this time - training volunteers would not allow us to maintain proper social distancing. We hope to accommodate new volunteers soon.
We appreciate our supporters understanding and complying with these requests - we are still very concerned with the health of our shelter employees, and our animals are, too!

Here are some additional guidelines on how to help animals in need:

Found Newborn Kittens: Unless the kittens are sick or in danger, please leave the kittens with their mother. If the mother isn’t present, ensure the kittens actually are abandoned before relocating them. Many times a mother is hunting or in the process of relocating them. Remember - their best chance for survival is staying with mom!

Found Healthy Stray Cat: We are now able to again begin taking stray cats found in Wayne County. We also recommend posting pictures of the cat on Facebook. If possible, check with a local veterinarian to see if the cat is microchipped. Call us with questions and to set up an appointment to bring the cat in!

Found Cat in Immediate Danger: This includes, but is not limited to: pregnant or nursing mothers, unweaned kittens (their eyes will be blue), or cats who are declawed, flea/tick infested, have infected eyes or ears, missing fur, limping, sick, emaciated, etc. Please contact us with a cat that fits this description, or one you have concerns about!

Don’t forget about our cats at PetSmart - you DON’T need an appointment to adopt them! We look forward to seeing you!

Emergency Care Fund

We have an Emergency Care Fund that was created to help provide care for especially sick and/or injured animals under our care. Diagnosis and care of severe illnesses or injuries can costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars. This fund will ensure that we can continue to provide these types of services when we are faced with animals in dire need.

Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Please donate today!

Lots of ways to give...

Would you like to make a gift to our general fund or maybe set up an automatic monthly gift? Maybe you'd like to sponsor an animal - there are lots of ways to support WCHS

We can always use volunteers...

Share your talents with us. Whether you want to be hands-on in the shelter with the animals, help from home with administrative work, or support us at events, we can use your help! Read about what our volunteers do. Have another idea about how you can help? Please contact us or fill out our volunteer inquiry form!
